Raffle Of Stained Glass Window Will Benefit Shawnee Theatre

The window will remain on display in the theatre's lobby throughout the season.
 
Donations for tickets are $5 each or three for $10 and can be purchased at the theatre lobby or from any board member. The drawing will be August 2 after the last play of the season.
 
Haywood, from Bloomfield, noted that Shawnee has to sponsor extra projects to keep the theatre going, especially when it first begins each summer, and he was glad he could show his support by donating the window.
 
Rural Bloomfield resident Paula Bartlett, who is a member of the Shawnee Board of Directors, said it was such an honor that Haywood donated the art work to Shawnee during this 50th anniversary season.
 
Bartlett added that the window could be beautifully displayed in a home,church or business.
 
In explaining the name of the window and its design, Haywood said he knew he wanted a roundel in it, so he first ordered the round piece of glass that was blown in Kokomo.
 
"I just plopped the roundel down and made a line down the center and added abstract circles," Haywood explained. "I never named a window, but all at once a name came to me. I saw the cross and thought it was inspired by God."
 
Haywood went on to explain that he had intended for the glass to have clear textures but did drop a small amount of red near the center of the cross and on the bottom of the left side of the window to represent Christ's blood. Even though most of the glass is clear, reflections create various hues.
 
Another unique design in the window are the seven bevels near the bottom representing the number seven that is mentioned several times in the Bible.
 
For display, Haywood says the window could be built in a window frame or hung in a window.
 
The Haywood family has been known for years for its printing company that was located in the Old Cabin on State Road 54. It wasn't until 1986 that P.D. added the stained glass business. He then moved from the Old Cabin to a new building next door.
