Always ahead of the game, the Pilkington Product Knowledge season introduced a break – albeit in the summer - several years ago.
The final fixture before the summer recess took place last week at the Pilkington Greengate site in St Helens. The introductory and intermediate level Product Knowledge (PK1) course welcomed attendees from several sectors of the glass and glazing industry. Representatives from glass processors, installers and window and door manufacturers were able to learn about glass for solar control, thermal insulation, fire protection and noise control. Escapes from the classroom allowed delegates to see the manufacture of float glass at UK5 and, at Cowley Hill also in St Helens, high performance coated glass at OLC1, the state-of-the-art off-line coater.
Phil Brown, Technical Advisory Service Manager and course referee, explains:
“A summer break allows an opportunity for both us and our customers to recharge batteries ahead of the busy run in to the end of the season.”
As well as the PK1 course, there is also an advanced PK2 course targeted at helping customers develop glass specifications for the commercial and high end residential sectors.
“Places are scarce, though,” warns Phil. “In the second half of the season, many of the courses are fully booked. Despite adding extra dates to meet the demand, we have had to introduce a waiting list for some dates. There are still a few spaces remaining for the final fixtures of the season. However, we would advise customers to reserve those final places now during the mid-season break. Don’t leave it too late!”
