Focus on bio-pharmaceutics and selfinjection: Syringe expert from Gerresheimer lectures in Philadelphia At the Pre-Filled Syringes Forum which is being held on March 5 – 6 in Philadelphia (Pennsylvania/USA), Gerresheimer is participating with an interesting talk and a small exhibition.

The event in the Radisson-Warwick Hotel provides scientifically and technically advanced information about the requirements, technologies and market developments across the field of pre-fillable syringes.Gerresheimer focuses here particularly on the compatibility of biotech drugs and the combination with autoinjectors.

As a specialist in ready-to-fill systems (umbrella brand: RTF®) Gerresheimer Bünde enjoys a worldwide ranking among the technology leaders in the syringe market. It is one of the few manufacturers to produce not only pre-fillable but also completely readyto- fill syringes delivered to the pharma industry after in-house siliconisation, full pre-assembly and final sterilisation. The concentration on this pharma-conforming procedure and all the associated aspects qualifies the Bünder syringe center particularly well to elucidate materials and technologies and weigh up conceivable alternatives in comparison with each other. The Gerresheimer subsidiaries in Europe and the USA have therefore just recently been able to patent a new process for syringe siliconisation which it developed to deal with the sensitivity of biotech injection materials towards the customary silicone oil coating on the glass wall: Baked-

On RTF™ significantly improves the long-term stability of drugs although it retains the long-proven glide agent for the syringe plunger.

In Philadelphia a lecture will be given Dr. Arno Fries, who is responsible for the syringe business of Gerresheimer Bünde in USA and for international product management of syringes. The title of his talk: “Combinations of Pre-Filled Syringes with Biotech Products and Injection Devices: What Needs to be Considered?” How important such lecture activity is in general from the viewpoint of the Gerresheimer Group is stressed by its Marketing and Communication Director Burkhard Lingenberg: “Drugs and their delivery systems cannot be observed in isolation from each other. We live from the intensive dialogue and know-how transfer with the pharmaceutics industry.”
