This innovative technology for roof glazing applications combines durable laminated glass with PPG’s established technology for the interior-heat-reducing Sungate windshield.
Sungate fR IR-reflective roof glass can be customized to meet specific vehicle needs, according to Dick Heilman, director of strategic marketing, PPG automotive OEM glass, with variations such as extra solar protectionor improved sound reduction using Safe and Sound laminated glass technology by PPG.
In PPG’s suite at NAIAS 2007, Sungate fR IR-reflective roof glass will be featured on a vehicle with a fully integrated roof module by Magna Donnelly Corp., a major supplier to the automotive OEM market. This application highlights a commercially viable glass roof system with a unique shade technology developed by Magna Donnelly. Additionally, the vehicle features a Sungate windshield, which helps keep the vehicle cooler by blocking more than 90 percent of the sun’s IR energy from entering the passenger compartment, Heilman said.
PPG also provided the vehicle’s exterior coatings – from the protective pretreatment layer to the decorative silver basecoat, black racing stripes and clearcoat – and the adhesives that secure the glass roof to the body.
The PPG suite, room 02-33 in Cobo Center, will be open Jan. 10 from noon to 9 p.m. and Jan. 11 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
