PPG Industries’ (NYSE:PPG) fiber glass business presented a seminar on its INNOFIBER(R) glass composition fibers during last week’s COMPOSITES 2012, hosted by the American Composite Manufacturers Association (ACMA) at Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.

“This presentation offered an opportunity for PPG to introduce products that are part of our new glass composition fiber portfolio, as well as to reinforce that we continue to offer the products our customers have valued and trusted for more than 50 years – our standard E-Glass reinforcements and yarns, which are core to the industry,” said Cheryl Richards, PPG global market development manager for energy and infrastructure markets.

“What’s exciting is that we now offer our customers alternatives to help them meet the changing demands of the market and provide options for their continued growth.”

During the seminar, PPG provided an overview of key benefits of the INNOFIBER portfolio of glass composition fibers, as well as explanation of how these products exceed the corrosion-resistance and modulus-performance limits of E-Glass.

“INNOFIBER specialty glass composition fibers expand the performance boundaries of traditional fiber glass reinforcements,” said Richard Heilman, PPG global business director for energy and infrastructure markets. “For example, INNOFIBER CR boron-free glass composition fiber is engineered for performance and provides excellent corrosion resistance in acidic environments, while the high-modulus INNOFIBER XM glass composition fibers offer better stiffness and lighter weight that benefits end-use applications that utilize highly oriented fiber reinforcements.”

Richards presented separate lab test results that illustrated clear differences for corrosion resistance as well as unidirectional dry wound tensile modulus using INNOFIBER glass fiber rovings and proprietary fiber glass sizing chemistry.
