PPG Architectural Finishes, a subsidiary of PPG Industries, Inc., has introduced Coraflon(TM) ADS (Air-Dried System) coatings, a new line of incredibly colorful fluoropolymer coatings that are as attractive and durable as coatings on new factory-finished building panels and architectural accents.

Richard A. Beuke, president of PPG Architectural Finishes, said Coraflon ADS coatings will spark a revolution in monumental building restoration. That is because these products permit architects and building owners to refurbish weathered building panels and accents with durable, field-applied coatings that are available in an unparalleled range of colors and glosses, including metallic finishes.

"The introduction of Duranar® coatings, PPG's first fluoropolymer coating, in 1965, changed the way architects and designers thought about color and metallic effects in modern building design," Beuke explained. "We expect these new products to have the same type of impact in the restoration market because of their brilliant color range, durability and ease of application."

Coraflon ADS coatings represent the next generation of fluoropolymer coatings technology. Building on the performance of Duranar® coatings, a product with the proven ability to maintain its looks for 20 years, Coraflon ADS coatings feature a proprietary chemical cross-linking formulation that produces a clear, inert fluoropolymer film. This enables Coraflon ADS coatings to achieve an exceptionally rich and vivid palette of solid colors, metallics and specials effects that cannot be replicated with traditional air-dried fluoropolymers.

Coraflon ADS coatings are designed for field application to aluminum building panels, walls, roofs, doors, window frames, handrails, stairs and other structurally sound surfaces.

Along with an expressive array of colors, Coraflon ADS coatings deliver exceptional longevity, even under extreme environmental conditions. The coatings' chemically inert composition yields a brilliant, low-maintenance finish that resists marring and abrasion. Coraflon ADS coatings also are extremely chalk-resistant and repel surface dirt and contaminants that can make buildings look old prematurely.

Because of their long life spans, Coraflon ADS coatings allow building owners to treat renovation costs as a capital investment rather than a maintenance expense. That means the cost of purchasing and applying Coraflon ADS coatings can be amortized over a longer period of time.

Coraflon ADS coatings also meet strict building codes and can be installed in virtually any environmental setting due to their low VOC (volatile organic compound) formulations.
