Aannounced that it will begin operation in January of an 80,000-square-foot plant in Barrie, Ontario, that will provide 20 full-time jobs in glass cutting, fabrication of insulating glass units, and distribution.

The new site replaces a PPG facility near Toronto in North York, where PPG has operated for 60 years.

“The Barrie plant will provide better access to our customers and enable us to operate more efficiently,” said Frank Caporiccio, general manager for PPG's flat glass trade products in Canada. “We’re always seeking ways to increase the value we offer to customers.”

The plant will occupy part of the 300,000-square-foot former Bemis Manufacturing facility at 200 Fairview Rd. in Barrie. Equipment installation will begin in November, according to Caporiccio, and the plant will begin operation in January 2012. PPG operates similar Canadian glass plants in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Calgary, Alberta, as well as a warehouse facility in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
