PPG: First home self-cleaning glass windows

The first home featuring windows made with SunClean self-cleaning glass was displayed today prior to the opening of the Custom Home 2001 trade show in Baltimore.

"We chose to demonstrate our glass in a real-world setting so that its two consumer-valued benefits would be evident," said Barry J. McGee, vice president for flat glass products. "SunClean self-cleaning glass is easier to clean than conventional glass and stays clean longer, so homeowners can spend less time cleaning and enjoy a clearer view."

A durable, transparent coating on the glass helps slowly break down and loosen dirt and sheets water so that rain or the light spray of a garden hose can rinse the exterior clean. Additionally, the sheeting action provides minimal spotting for a cleaner appearance. The revolutionary new glass from PPG Industries is now being introduced to makers of wood, vinyl and aluminum windows serving the new-construction and remodeling markets.
