Potential buyers are still interested in the Ford Glass Plant, and employees at the southeast Tulsa facility should know their fate by year's end, officials said Friday.

"There are talks under way. . . . The interested parties include both U.S. and international companies," said Della DiPietro, a spokeswoman for Automotive Components Holdings LLC, which operates the plant for Ford Motor Co.

DiPietro would not disclose the names of the interested parties, citing confidentiality agreements.

The Ford Glass Plant was among 17 factories that Ford Motor Co. took back from bankrupt Visteon Corp. in September 2005. Ford formed ACH as a holding company for the facilities and announced plans to sell or close them by 2008.

"We expect decisions about the plants will be made this year," DiPietro said.

Ford also plans to shed thousands of hourly jobs at the company in a bid to become smaller and more competitive with Japanese rivals.

Several kinds of buyouts were offered to hourly workers, including those in Tulsa. So far, 127 employees here have accepted offers and left, DiPietro said.

The plant employs 675 people, down from 725 when Ford took ownership.
