Pittsburgh Glass to shut 2 Ontario plants in '09

Pittsburgh Glass Works will close two plants in Ontario as a stalled car sector will slice the demand for its auto glass next year, the company said this week.

Pittsburgh Glass, which makes windshields, side windows and sunroofs for various cars and trucks, said it sees poor sales of cars and trucks in 2009 and needs to shut three plants - a production plant in Oshawa and two satellite facilities, one in Cambridge, Ont., and another in Newark, Del., - next year."This realignment will enable us to adapt to the changing demands of the industry.The changes are part of PGW's transformation of its manufacturing footprint and will help to improve our focus on our remaining facilities," said Jim Wiggins, Pittsburgh Glass' president and chief executive officer.
