Sales in the current year are expected to top $5 million. "We have seen excellent growth so far and there is still enormous potential in the Indian market," said Pinaki Banerjee, head of operations.

"We now have almost a third of the value-added market share and we are still growing."

Pilkington now has now terminated all agency agreements in India and instead, has a full-time staff of five covering the head office in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.

The four sales managers - Manish Anand, Prateek Manglani, T. Lakshman and Amitabh Mishra - visited the UK in August for an intensive three-day induction programme which included training in all aspects of the business, plus visits to manufacturing sites.

Back in India, the team launched a National Architects and Consultants Programme in October, distributing sample kits and full information packs to building industry professionals in all major cities.

And in December, Pilkington will be represented for the first time at the sub-continent's major industry exhibition, Glasstech India, in Mumbai.
