Pilkington North America has raised the prices "on all automotive glass parts," effective immediately, according to an announcement made by Bill George, director of marketing, last week.

The company attributes the increase to its own rising costs.

"We have been unable to offset the escalating material, commodity and energy costs with our aggressive cost reduction measures," writes George.

George adds, "We sincerely hope you will understand the necessity for this general price increase. As always, we will continue to improve our products and services while remaining competitive and affordable."

The announcement came just one day after Pittsburgh Glass Works (PGW) made a similar announcement saying that it is re-evaluating its pricing on a part-by-part basis "in response to [a] broad-based increase in costs."

It also followed an announcement from Pilkington parent company NSG Group that its automotive sales were down 11.7 percent worldwide for Fiscal Year 2010.
