The curtain has come down on another successful Product Knowledge campaign. Kicking off in late Spring with the popular Product Knowledge (PK1) course, the season-ending finale was the Mechanical Strength and Glass Design session held in November at Alexandra Business Park in St Helens.

In total, over 70 certificates were presented to attendees in 2013.There was wide representation from different stakeholders in the glass and glazing industry supply chain attending from the UK, Ireland, Finland, Poland, Malaysia and India.

Several of the training courses utilised the well-established Pilkington Spectrum program and the new online calculators available via the MyPilkington business support tool for customers.

As well as the traditional PK1 and Advanced Product Knowledge (PK2) training courses, this season saw the introduction of short duration courses on key subjects such as energy performance, fire protection and mechanical strength.

"We tailored this year's programme to the needs of our customers," explained course organiser, Phil Brown, Manager of the Technical Advisory Service for UK & Ireland. "Acknowledging that spending two or three days away from their businesses can be extremely challenging in the current economic climate, we offered half- and one-day courses to give greater choice to our customers. As well as meeting the learning and development needs of our own sales teams, this has allowed our customers to incorporate the product knowledge courses within their own training plans."

Collected through the convenient online survey, the comments and suggestions from attendees at this year's courses will prove to be invaluable in assessing requirements for next year.

"Once we have analysed the feedback," added Phil, "we will be able to make the improvements to the content and format that our customers have identified for 2014."

A full training programme for 2014 is expected to be announced in December.
