Pilkington Polska has won a national economic title in a contest organised by the Polish Puls Biznesu newspaper. The business has been named a Pillar of the Polish Economy, coming top of the poll for the Swietokrzyski region.

Pilkington Automotive came fourth. Accepting the award of a statuette at a presentation ceremony in November, country manager Ireneusz Skwarek said: "This award is a great commendation for our company and a reason for pride for every employee. The title proves that our company is highly estimated throughout the region."

The contest is specifically for large companies which play a meaningful role in their region and are therefore significant for the national economy as a whole. They are judged on profitability and also on their contribution to the community. More than 420 companies were selected to enter for the 2007 awards and 18 won statuettes or certificates.
