The extended Les Herbiers downstream processing and merchanting site in south western France was officially opened by chief executive Stuart Chambers on October 6.
The 8,000m2 site is now the largest within Building Products Europe, employing 60 people and producing 2400m2 of IGUs per day. The launch was attended by suppliers, customers and representatives of nearly 20 newspapers and magazines.
The site is the first within Building Products Europe to produce a new IGU process, which fits an insulating strip around the edge of the unit in place of the conventional aluminium spacer. Les Herbiers is sited close to one of Europe's biggest aluminium frame-makers, Ouest Alu, which has now become a major customer for the new process.
