Pilkington: Italy combats environmental pollution

An electro precipitator has been installed at the San Salvo float plant in Italy in order to meet current and future EU environmental pollution legislation.

The project took 16 months to complete from the start in July 2001 and ended with the preliminary testing phase in August 2002, with commmissioning in October.The pollution control plant fulfils two main functions, minimising acidic components and the reduction of particulate matter.Waste gases are returned to the chimney with fewer pollutants.A similar plant has also been installed at the Venice operation and both will be fully operational by January next year.An electro precipitator has been installed at the San Salvo float plant in Italy in order to meet current and future EU environmental pollution legislation.
