Pierre-André de Chalendar is apponted as chief operating officer of compagnie de Saint-Gobain

Christian Streiff, is stepping down as Chief Operating Officer.In the course of his twenty-six years of service within the Group, Christian Streiff has held nine positions, including six executive management functions in Germany, France and Italy - notably Chief Executive Officer of Saint-Gobain Emballage and Chairman of Pont-à-Mousson S.A.

From 2002 to 2003, he was President of Saint-Gobain’s Abrasives and Ceramics divisions. He had taken up the function of Chief Operating Officer on April 1, 2004.
At its meeting of May 3, 2005, the Board of Directors of Compagnie de Saint-Gobain, acting upon the recommendation of Chairman and CEO Jean-Louis Beffa, unanimously appointed Pierre-André de Chalendar as Chief Operating Officer.

Pierre-André de Chalendar, 47, joined the Group in 1989 as Vice-President, Corporate Planning. He was then Head of the Abrasives Division, Europe from 1992 to 1996, and President of the Abrasives Division from 1996 to 2000. From 2000 to 2002, he was the Company’s General Delegate to the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, as well as President-Delegate of the Building Distribution Division for the United Kingdom and the United States. Since 2003, he has been Senior Vice-President of the Company and President of the Building Distribution Sector.

Appointments

Further to the appointment of Pierre-André de Chalendar as Chief Operating Officer of Compagnie de Saint-Gobain, the Group has undergone the following changes:

Philippe Crouzet, Senior Vice-President, Finance, has been appointed Senior Vice-President in charge of Building Distribution.

Benoît Bazin, President of Abrasive operations for North America and Head of the Abrasives Division’s Bonded Grinding Wheels business, has been appointed Chief Financial Officer.

Philippe Crouzet, born in October 1956, graduated with honors from the Institut d'Etudes Politiques and the Ecole Nationale d'Administration. He was a former counsel (maître des requêtes) to the Conseil d'Etat. He joined the Group in 1986 as the Vice-President of Corporate Planning and went on to become Vice-President of Papeteries de Condat (1989), General Delegate to Spain (1992), and President of Flat Glass operations for the building industry in Europe (1996). He became President of the Ceramics & Plastics Division in 1996. In September 2000, he was appointed Senior Vice-President of Compagnie de Saint-Gobain in charge of Finance, Information Systems and Purchasing.

Benoît Bazin, born in December 1968, is an alumnus of the Ecole Polytechnique and the Ecole des Ponts et Chaussées. He also holds a Master of Science from MIT and a diploma in Economics from IEP Paris. He joined the Group in 1999 as the Vice-President of Corporate and Strategic Planning for the Abrasives Division. In September 2000, he was appointed Vice-President of Corporate Planning for Compagnie de Saint-Gobain and in 2002, became President of Abrasive operations for North America and Head of the Abrasive Division’s worldwide Bonded Grinding Wheels business.
