PGT® Custom Windows + Doors was awarded a patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on April 4, 2017. The new patent US9611688 covers the company's secure corner assembly for high-strength windows.

PGT engineers Kenneth Vanderbent, Jr., Samuel Bryant, and Michael Dietmar Nau collaborated on this new invention to add strength to fusion-welded sash corners, which allows window units to be produced with less aluminum reinforcements while still achieving some of the largest sizes and highest design pressures in the vinyl window industry.

"We're thrilled to be awarded this patent for our secure corner assembly design. It's an important component within our window designs that allows us to create impact-resistant products that are stronger, safer and smarter," said Dean Ruark, Director of Product Management, PGT Innovations.

He added, "With this patent, we are assured this unique technology, that differentiates our windows, is protected."

Branded SecureConnect, the innovative technology is offered in multiple PGT product lines such as WinGuard® Vinyl and EnergyVue® product lines.

Incorporating the corner keys in the hung windows allows smoother tilting and pivoting functions, while the corner keys in the roller provide improved rolling function, allow less air infiltration, and limit movement of sashes while experiencing positive and negative wind loads.

Overall, the integration of the corner key with other window components creates a more stable unit, ensuring the integrity and performance of every window.
