Owens-Illinois Announces One-Piece Squeeze & Turn Child-Resistant Package

"The squeeze & turn package is the newest addition to our product line and offers our customers a cost-effective, child-resistant total package solution."

Squeeze & turn closures are a proven technology designed as a lower-cost alternative to two-piece child-resistant closures (CRCs), while offering the same child protection and senior-friendly characteristics.

The squeeze & turn closure is a non torque-dependent system which means it does not rely entirely on the closure's application torque for child resistance. It is also production-friendly in that no on-line retorquers are required after the induction seal is activated. Additionally, the closure emits an audible and tactile click as the squeeze & turn closure is properly resecured.

The package uses conventional liners and is suitable for both pharmaceutical and over-the-counter solid oral dose applications.

While squeeze & turn closures are new to solid oral dose applications, O-I's 28-400 squeeze & turn linerless closures have been used for years in packaging liquid cough and cold products. O-I also offers an extensive line of two-piece Clic-Loc(R), Argus-Loc(R), Ultra-Loc(TM) and Chem-Loc(R) child- resistant closures.

The full stock line of the squeeze & turn package includes 45, 75, 120, 180, and 225 cc sizes and is available now. The system is currently being introduced by major pharmaceutical companies.
