Orangery Solutions was recently commissioned to supply a complete, patented system for a large project in Gloucestershire which required triple glazed roof units as part of the specification.

Working closely with the architects at all levels of the planning stages, the 9.4 x 4.6m installation is one of an increasing number of higher specification projects that requires the best insulation products installed as standard. The company has noticed that progressively more architects and planners are specifying a higher thermal level than the minimum, for premium installations, as it provides better overall value for year round use.As orangeries are quickly becoming one of the most popular ways to modernise and expand properties, architects now have more scope in terms of design, performance and aesthetics.Paul Nellis, Managing Director at Orangery Solutions believes that more architects are looking to incorporate materials with proven life spans and higher performance levels as it is expected by consumers, that premium installations are completed using only the best available products.

He comments, “For every day use the triple roofing option simply cannot be beaten, which is why it was specified for this particular installation. As orangery design has become more dynamic through product innovation, both architects and consumers are looking for more in terms of investment which is helping to drive this sector of the industry forward.”

With glass roofs providing greater possibilities, the orangery is no longer considered just extra space to relax in when the weather allows it.

Paul continues, “Orangeries are now built very much to reflect lifestyles as well as to add space. This gives greater scope for the completed projects but equally requires careful understanding of material capability and final overall performance levels. We are seeing an increase in demand for triple glazed roofing as its advantages are becoming apparent to homeowners as much as to builders and installers. Noise reduction, heat retention and easy maintenance all being important factors for consideration at the planning stage.

He continues, “As the financial jump from double to triple glazed units is not that large, we are seeing more architects make that higher end specification purely as it provides a better finish to the end project.”

Using specialist units Orangery Solutions customers are able to incentivize investors with up to a 50% reduction in heat loss through the glass, which is achievable using triple glazed units.

Paul Nellis, comments, “Thermally efficient products give architects more diversity and homeowners a faster payback and guaranteed use. Typically a 44mm triple glass unit can have a U value as low as 0.6 while a 36mm unit provides a U value of just 0.8 which obviously provides huge advantages in terms of everyday use.”
