From now on, PLANSEE will develop, manufacture and supply sputtering targets for all types of metallic functional layers used in LCD displays: the company’s expanded product range will include aluminum and copper sputtering targets that were first showcased at the FPD International tradeshow in Yokohama, Japan.  Head of the coating sales segment Ulrich Lausecker comments: “It’s very important for our customers that the metallic layers used in flat panel displays are fully compatible with each other and are of consistently high quality.” And PLANSEE has thorough processes in place to make sure that this happens: it has its own onsite PVD coatings application centre, which is used to deposit and analyze layers and tailor them to customer requirements.

Then high-quality sputtering targets are custom-made for the specified layers.

PLANSEE manufactures sputtering targets made from pure molybdenum as well as molybdenum alloys entirely in-house – carrying out everything from powder manufacturing to bonding itself. To produce bonded sputtering targets from aluminum and coppers, it buys roller plates from external sources.

PLANSEE’s sputtering targets made from molybdenum, copper and aluminum are available in all different sizes, and are used to coat all popular types of current flat panel displays – from small-screen displays for cell phones to large flat-screen TVs.
