Professor MacDiarmid, Blanchard Professor of Chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania, will speak on “Synthetic Metals: A Novel Role for Conductive Polymers.” He was awarded the Nobel Prize in 2000 for his work in the field of electrically conductive polymers; Professor MacDiarmid was the founder and is a leading investigator in this area.In 1973 he discovered the first conductive polymer and developed the basis for numerous potential applications, including light-emitting diodes.
