NMCP assistance for local industrialists

The Netherlands Management Cooperation Programme (NMCP) has come forward to assist local industries by offering expert advice.

President of the Netherlands Alumni Association of Sri Lanka S.P.C. Kumarasinghe said senior NMCP advisors have channeled assistance to local companies through the transfer of knowledge and experience from their own specialist field.

The concept is to assist developing of a social market economy in the 85 countries where NMCP is active at present. these volunteers are not paid for their work.

The recipient company or organization provide food, accommodation and transport within the country for these experts, while NMCP pays for the international travel, insurance etc", Kumarasinghe said in a press release. NMCP has been active in Sri Lanka since 1996. Up to date, more the 80 Sri Lankan companies and institutions have benefited from NMCP experts.

NMCP have already assisted the printing industry, paint manufacturers, sugar industry, glass industry, cast iron factories, ship automation, cheese production, foliage and cut flowers for export ornamental fish, rubber industry, furniture industry, television drama production, lighting and sound, dairy milk production, leather industry, pottery, fruit processing, pet food production, hand made paper, information technology, prawn farming , fish canning, day care centres, tourism and hotel industry, chocolate sweets, textile industry and many more industries in Sri Lanka.

The recipient companies could request for a maximum of three follow up visits by the expert to continue the development programmes introduced by them.

'With the onset of the peace agreement in Sri Lanka now NMCP is active in North and East too.

Already one NMCP expert visited Trincomalee to assist a small scale fish canning factory. In may 2003 another expert will arrive in trincomalee to advise a Dairy Development Programme and many more to follow', he said.

Over the past few years, NMCP sector advisors have developed seminars and workshops in a number of areas that have been proved to be very effective in transferring technology to more people.
