New Surface Stress Software Automates GASP® Measurements

Date: 16 October 2009

The AUTO-GASP® polarimeter from Strainoptics measures surface stress in heat-strengthened or tempered flat glass non-destructively using a WinXP or VISTA computer.

The instrument can be ordered as a complete system or as a kit for easily converting conventional GASPs to automatic measurement.

After first obtaining a suitable image with the GASP on the tin side of soda-lime float glass, the proprietary image analysis software reports surface compression with two mouse clicks. Data is reported on-screen and may be saved or recalled in Excel format for storage or analysis. For verification purposes, calculations may also be made manually via a video image using the familiar GASP visual procedure.
