This scheme, for new windows in homes, is based on similar schemes in Europe and North America and takes account of the heat-gaining, as well as heat-losing, properties of windows. Windows containing Pilkington energiKare are eligible to apply for Energy Saving Recommended status by the Energy Saving Trust - a scheme devised to signpost consumers to more energy efficient products.
The unit combines an outer layer of Pilkington Optiwhite™, to maximise solar heat gain, with an inner pane of Pilkington K Glass™ to reduce heat loss, and argon filling for optimum heat insulation.
The result is 90 per cent more efficient than single glazing and more than twice as efficient as the standard Part L window which uses standard Pilkington Optifloat™ for the outer pane.

"There is a growing demand for energy efficient products as people accept the need to reduce carbon emissions and realise that they can save money on their household energy bills by doing so."
