A new partnership between façade specialists Wicona and Fendor has resulted in the launch of a sliding aluminium window system specifically designed for anti-ligature applications, such as mental health and custodial facilities.

The window concept has been developed in a collaboration between Fendor and Wicona, and Wicona will produce the profiles for fabrication and installation by the Fendor team.

The new system has a number of key features to make it anti-ligature and to reduce security risks relating to absconding or the passing of illicit substances through the window, whilst still maintaining the flow of fresh air.  It has:

  • A smooth, flush internal face with no ledges or lips and a reduced number of joints

  • Anti-ligature window hardware

  • A perforated aluminium mesh fixed into the aperture to maximise fresh air

  • Sight lines reduced by around 40 per cent to allow a high level of natural light, helping to enhance the internal environment and wellbeing for building occupants or patients

  • An easy-to-clean, low maintenance design

  • Full compliance with Building Regulations Part L 2010 and thermally broken for energy efficiency

  • Available in a highly durable white polyester powder coating to suit a clinical environment, as well as other single and dual colour options

  • A high standard of aesthetics for a contemporary appearance

  • A robust and easy-to-use sliding mechanism

  • Concealed fixings.

The window system has a range of applications including facilities for mental health, secure category A hospitals, adult learning, high dependency, forensic, young offenders, custodial suites, children's secure centres and women's refuges.

Now a Wicona fabricator, Fendor works in the commercial and public sectors, designing, fabricating and installing specialist and blast resistant glazing solutions.
