Markes International (Llantrisant) has announced it will be hosting a one-day seminar in October to bring together key developers of standard methods and regulations for assessing volatile emissions from products and materials.

Organised by the British Measurement and Testing Association (BMTA), and held at Markes’ Technical Centre in Llantrisant, near Cardiff, on 21 October, the event is open to anyone with an interest in facilitating compliance with the demands of the European Construction Products Regulations (CPR).More specifically, the day will aim to provide an overview of regulations and standard methods for the testing of volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds (VOCs and SVOCs) from products and materials. The range of invited speakers will ensure that all perspectives are represented – including regulators, test laboratories, research institutes and industry.

The morning programme will feature presentations from Markes’ Thermal Desorption Applications Specialist Dr Caroline Widdowson, Dr Derrick Crump from Cranfield University, Dr Veronica Brown from the UK Health & Safety Laboratory (HSL), John Hubbard from the UK-based research and testing organisation SATRA, and Steve Mulholland from vinyl flooring manufacturer Polyflor.

In addition to these presentations, delegates will be able to discuss the latest developments in the field in a ‘workshop’ format, as well having the opportunity to see Markes’ latest instruments for sampling and detecting trace volatiles in its state-of-the-art laboratory.

Peter Russell, Secretary of the BMTA, says: “Markes International has been an active member of BMTA since 2010, when the company had a major role in a BMTA conference on the CPR. Four years on, BMTA is revisiting the topic, and chose Markes as an ideal partner to provide the venue and technical input for day, which promises to be very interesting and instructive.”

Markes International manufactures specialist analytical instrumentation for trace organic analysis.
