Stuttgart/Mainz/Jena/Oberkochen - Tilman Todenhöfer, who has served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Carl-Zeiss-Foundation, Heidenheim-Jena, and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of SCHOTT AG, Mainz, as well as Carl Zeiss AG, Oberkochen, will be resigning from his official functions at the Carl-Zeiss-Foundation and Carl Zeiss AG effective 09/30/2008.

Tilman Todenhöfer had already resigned from his duties at SCHOTT AG on 07/31/2008.

The acquisition of ersol Solar Energy AG, Erfurt, by Robert Bosch GmbH is the reason for his decision. This move will lead to overlapping activities in the fields of photovoltaics and solar thermal between divisions of SCHOTT AG and Robert Bosch GmbH. Tilman Todenhöfer is the personally liable partner of the Robert Bosch Industrietreuhand KG that performs an entrepreneurial ownership function at Robert Bosch GmbH.

The administration and Board of Trustees of the Carl-Zeiss-Foundation, as well as the members of the Supervisory Boards and Boards of Management of Carl Zeiss AG and SCHOTT AG deeply regret the resignation of Tilman Todenhöfer, yet accept and understand his decision with great respect. They thank him for his successful work for the good of both of the companies that belong to the Foundation and the Foundation itself for the last five years.

Dr. h.c. Eggert Voscherau, who was Deputy Chairman of the Board of Management of BASF SE until April of 2008, has been designated to become Tilman Todenhöfer’s successor for the three offices that he held.
