THE Madhvani glass trading company made about sh2.6b last year, from dealing in glass products from the family works located in Dar-es- Salaam, Tanzania.

Local sales are handled from the former East African Glass Works factory on Fifth Street, Industrial Area.

"The response has been good and last year we traded in glass amounting to about sh2.6b and are expecting Coca Cola to take about 2.5m. bottles in the first quarter of this year alone," Tharun Patnaik, the sales and marketing manager said last week.

"We have reclaimed the company from the bush which had invaded the premises and the uganda first business we have done is to trade in glass and find out the extent. of the market," he said.

Bottles come in pallets then they are removed and put into Coke crates. Each pallet contains enough bottles for 120 crates. "We are also saving them storage and bulk breaking charges" he said. Patnaik said they are dealing with other beverage firms, including Nile Breweries, Reco Industries, Britania and several honey packers.

jars, pharmaceutical pill bottles as well as glasses for lanterns especially in rural Uganda.

"We are also saving the country foreign exchange as many of the above used to get the bottles from South Africa, India and so on" he said.
