EPG is a new category of auto glass for side, rear and roof windows.
"This is significant in that it marks the first time a North American manufacturer has adopted EPG as a standard feature," said Victoria Holt, Solutia vice president and general manager of the performance films division. "Lincoln, a brand known for the quality of its vehicles, has chosen EPG, and that is a milestone in the evolution of auto glass in North America."
The Aviator joins its larger cousin, the Lincoln Navigator, in its use of EPG. According to Solutia Market Development Director Jay Pyper, Lincoln chose to use EPG based on its sound abatement qualities.
"Tests have shown that EPG can reduce interior noise levels by three to six decibels, which is a significant reduction," said Pyper, "we are proud that Ford, makers of one of America's premium luxury vehicles has chosen to incorporate EPG."
According to Pyper, EPG will provide Lincoln Aviator and Navigator owners with a number of benefits beyond noise reduction. EPG also offers security benefits, providing up to 30 seconds of intrusion resistance, and solar protection by blocking 95 percent of harmful UV rays.
