After a brief serious illness, Karl-Heinz Spiess has died close to his former place of work in Troisdorf near Cologne.      Spiess was responsible for the fortunes of the TROSIFOL brand from 1992 and gave it a face.

From one product among many, and while the company was under changing ownership, the charismatic chemical engineer created an internationally important brand. In a decisive phase in 2005, TROSIFOL was sold to its favoured prospective buyer, today's Kuraray Europe GmbH. In 2011 he handed over the management to his successor and was thereafter actively involved in cultural exchanges between German and Russian school pupils. At the same time, he was an adviser to Cologne University of Applied Sciences and visiting professor at the University of Architecture and Civil Engineering in Nizhny Novgorod. A production plant for TROSIFOL PVB films has been located not far from the Russian university since 2003.
