KIG Glass Industrial Bhd sees good growth for its exports to Mexico, Turkey and the US, said its executive chairman Lam Tin Sing.

He said the company had penetrated these markets only in recent years, and its products were already well-received.

“Through careful planning, the company hopes to be able to develop and expand its export market share,'' Lam told StarBiz after the company’s AGM recently.

He said the company exported about 80% of its products to more than 100 countries and the balance of 20% went to the domestic market.

Lam said the company would continue to explore opportunities and initiate effective and aggressive marketing efforts to boost its export segment.

Among its strong traditional export markets are countries in Africa, the Indian sub-continent and the Middle East.

According to Lam, the demand for imported glass tableware products in these countries is always good due to the large population of the countries.

“The North American market is also huge, and the demand for our products is more than twice in that in the South American countries,'' he added.

Lam said the only setback currently faced was higher freight charges and insurance coverage for export of its products from Malaysia to the US.

He said apart from the North American market, South American countries, especially Mexico, also showed promising growth in demand for its products.

“The company is considering the possibility of setting up a manufacturing plant in South America,'' said Lam.

However, he said no time frame had been for the project, neither has any country in outh America been indentified.

KIG has operations in Malaysia and China and is involved in the manufacture and sale of glassware, glass blocks, clay roofing tiles and carton boxes.
