Japan glass firms pumping more funds into S. Korea

South Korea said yesterday that Asahi Glass Co Ltd and seven other Japanese companies plan to invest a combined US$480mil to meet growing demand from the country's technology sector.

The plans were unveiled after an investment forum chaired by South Korea's Commerce Minister Lee Hee-beom in Tokyo.

Asahi Glass, Japan's top glassmaker, would invest US$240mil over the next four years to build a plant for glass used in liquid crystal displays (LCDs) in Kyongsang province, the commerce ministry said in a statement
