Japan Central Glass: Electrolyte business reorganized ahead of full-scale commercialization

On October 1, 2009 Central Glass implemented a structural reorganization to pave the way for commercialization of the production of electrolyte for use in lithium-ion batteries.

Nature of reorganizationAn Energy Materials Development Department has been newly established, and a R&D and Business Planning Group and a Global Business Group have been set up within the Department.In addition, an Electrolyte Plant Construction Group has been set up within the Chemicals Technical Planning Department. The Energy Materials Development Department was established to act as a unit specifically responsible for the commercialization of electrolyte for use in lithium-ion batteries. This department will take charge of the development, production planning, and global marketing of electrolyte, to prepare for the full-scale start-up of an electrolyte business.
