Japan-based flat panel TV component suppliers raise capital investments

Japan-based Dai Nippon Printing will invest 30 billion yen for its eighth generation (8G) color filter (CF) production line at its fab in Kita Kyushu, southwestern Japan.

The new plant will begin operation by the end of next year, according to a Japanese-language Nihon Keizai newspaper report. The company is also spending 25 billion yen on its sixth generation (6G) plant, the paper added.

Polarizer manufacturer, Sumitomo Chemical also plans to spend 30 million yen on its two plants in Japan and South Korea to increase output of large-sized LCD components. The expansion will be completed in October of 2006, according to the company.

In addition, Japan's largest glassmaker Asahi Glass began constructing 8G glass substrates this July and its new fab will be on line in October 2006, when Sharp’s 8G panel plant begins operations, according to a Forbes report.
