Glasstech Inc., the world leader in the innovation and manufacturing of glass bending and tempering equipment, will feature key architectural tempering technologies at interGLASSmetal/FENESTRATION world 2003, November 4 to 6, at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.

Glasstech-designed systems are used by glass fabricators worldwide to produce superior quality bent and tempered glass components used in the building industry for windows, door lites, window walls, dividers, balustrades, furniture and decorative accents. Glasstech has developed a new generation of furnaces, the FCH2 gas-fired forced convection heater and the ERH-C2/ERH-C3 convection-assisted electric radiant heaters.Glasstech’s FCH2 Forced Convection Heater system, fired by natural gas, is the leading system for the efficient tempering of energy-saving Low-E flat glass. The FCH2 can heat Low-E glass at a rate twice as fast as typical electric radiation heating systems, which dramatically improves productivity and reduces processing cost.

The FCH2 can heat clear glass at a typical rate of 30 seconds per millimeter of thickness and high-performance, soft-coat Low-E glass at a typical rate of 33 seconds per millimeter. In addition, the FCH2’s reduced heating time means glass spends less time on the roller bed, which provides for higher quality with less distortion.

Glasstech’s ERH-C2 Electric Radiant Heater processes Low-E glass approximately 20 percent faster than a traditional electric radiant heater. The ERH-C2 adds upper surface convection to improve the productivity of Glasstech’s traditional electric-radiant system, the ERH. An ERH-C3 version is available with lower surface convection, capable of even greater throughput for Low-E glass.

The ERH-C2 and C3 convection systems are available as new systems and as retrofits to existing Glasstech electric radiation systems.

Additionally, Glasstech has introduced a new automotive system, the External Press Bending System, as well as updates to the DB4, its workhorse automotive system.

Glasstech’s new EPB system produces automotive sidelites with cylindrical, compound, complex, symmetrical and non-symmetrical curvatures. It utilizes economic tooling and an adjustable quench plus quick-change bender stations.

Glasstech’s DB4, has been revised with user-requested features to improve even further on its optical quality and shaping capabilities as well as to increase product yield.

The recent addition of Quick-Change and Fast-Cycle options has significantly improved the productivity of Glasstech’s DB4. With the Quick-Change option, customers can now expect a changeover time of just 90 to 120 minutes good glass to good glass. The Fast-Cycle option typically gives customers 20 percent more output than the standard system. The combination of these two features provides a significant improvement in cost-efficiency.
