The Tamil Nadu Government has imposed a ban on using black sun control films on windscreens and rear windows of motor vehicles in a bid to prevent accidents and check illegal activities inside the vehicles.

Mr C P Singh, State Transport Commissioner said in a statement that the use of black films denied a clear side view and rear view to drivers causing road accidents and also gave room for illegal activities inside the vehicles.

He said the Regional Transport Officers and police officials had been instructed to strictly enforce the Government Order.

The first-time offenders would be slapped a fine of Rs 100, which would extend to Rs 300 for any second or subsequent offence, he added.

Mr Singh also said the Registration Certificates (RCs) of vehicles would be suspended for violation. With respect to transport vehicles, the certificate of fitness would also be suspended in addition to the RCs, he warned.
