Beloit Store Manager Todd Rennie Competing In National Auto Glass Championship

Chicago, IL – Local Janesville, WI resident Todd Rennie is traveling to Las Vegas, NV this weekend to compete in the prestigious American Master Installer Auto Glass Championship October 6th & 7th. Rennie is honored to be selected to represent Glass America, a national auto windshield repair and replacement company. Rennie is the store manager for the Glass America shop in Beloit on 2710 Prairie Avenue (608-361-7080). The shop is located across the street from the Beloit Hospital, at the corner of Prairie Avenue and Hart Road. The shop has served over 10,000 local customers with windshield replacement and repairs.

Rennie is competing among the top windshield technicians and installers in the country with only 7 contestants who were selected to enter in The Master Installer Competition. Rennie, along with the other contestants, will be judged in three areas: auto glass repair, windshield removal and replacement, and sidelite removal and replacement. The winner of the American national championship, along with the first runner-up, will travel to Germany at the end of October 2008 to represent the U.S. in the International Master Fitter Competition.

“This is my first time entering in the competition. It is set up like a routine job stop. I will greet the ‘customer,’ explain the procedure, verify that I have the correct parts for the particular vehicle, and perform the service, by the book,” explains Rennie. “It’s important to verify that the products have the appropriate expiration dates. I will document the lot numbers, and map out the safe drive away time based on the curing of the adhesive. Safety is the biggest concern, but it is also critical to not damage the car during the repair. Then I will clean up, finish up with the customer, and do all of this during the time allotted for the competition. After the judging is complete, the winner is off to Germany!”

Rennie began his career in the auto glass industry 25 years ago as an Auto Glass Trainee for an independent glass company in Southern Wisconsin. He has been supervising and training Auto Glass Technicians for the past eleven years and joined Glass America three years ago to oversee the Beloit store. Todd has been certified by both Dow and Sika, he reached the level of Master Technician with the NGA and has also attended the Carlite Glass School in Detroit.

Rennie finds the auto glass industry to be rewarding. “I like going to work every day because there are new people, new places, new vehicles. The industry is constantly changing and we have to be prepared to handle the windshield repairs and installations for all of the new vehicles on the market each year. It keeps things fresh and exciting,” says Rennie.

Rennie was born in, and still resides in Southern Wisconsin with his wife of 20 years and their five daughters. A big change will take place in the Rennie household this year when his oldest daughter spreads her wings and heads off to college. Rennie is an avid outdoorsman, and hunts, cleans and prepares all of his own game for his family’s meals.
