Edgetech Launches Recycled Reel Initiative

Edgetech, the only dedicated Warm Edge Technology manufacturer in the UK, has introduced a reel returns system for its automated machinery customers. The scheme is being piloted with customers using the automated reels in England, Scotland and Wales and will be extended later this year to our customers in Northern and Southern Ireland. "We've been talking to installers about selling the green message to boost their sales, but we have also been looking internally at improvements we can make to be kinder to the environment," says Andy Jones, Managing Director of Edgetech.

"We've already been using recycled boxes for all our 2000+ boxed deliveries per month and this new initiative is another way we can improve our own carbon footprint. Previously when our auto reel customers had finished with their reels they used to throw them into the skip because there was no alternative, this went directly into costly, harmful landfill sites. We saw the opportunity for our customers to both save money and cut waste - currently the auto reel usage accounts for nearly 60 tonnes worth of plastic per year and continues to grow. With this new initiative customers send the reels back to us to re-use them and we cover the cost of the transport so the customer is not out of pocket. We even pay the customer a nominal amount to cover the labour costs of braking the reels down and re boxing them. We're not claiming this initiative will save the planet but we're keen to find ways of improving our carbon footprint and increase our customers' profitability as and when we can."
