2,400 solar mirrors from SAINT-GOBAIN GLASS provide for optimal use of solar energy

Currently, a new solar tower power plant is under construction in Jülich near Aachen. This research and power-generation project is planned to go into operation at the end of 2008. SAINT-GOBAIN GLASS produced 2,400 special, highly-reflective flat mirrors especially for the plant.

When completed, the solar tower power plant Jülich will have a nominal power rating of 1.5 MW. With the help of special heat accumulators it can compensate for passing clouds and is even capable of supplying heat collected during the day with a time delay at night. Property developers and operators are the Stadtwerke Jülich which, following completion and the trial stage, plans to supply about four hundred households in Jülich with current from the solar tower power plant.
