Rohm and Haas adhesives plant in Jacareí, Brazil

Rohm and Haas Company, a leading global producer of specialty materials, announced the successful start-up of their new Brazilian adhesives plant in Jacareí. This newest production facility for their global adhesives business was built with an investment of $15 million (US). Using the latest in modern, computer-integrated technologies, the eco-friendly plant concluded its successful inaugural production run in spring 2002.

Focused on the production of adhesives for the Latin American Region, the new facility operates with cutting-edge technology gained in the acquisition of Morton International and later fine-tuned by Rohm and Haas. It also includes vertical production facilities for polyester, a raw material used in the manufacture of polyurethanebased adhesives for flexible packaging. The plant also manufactures acrylic emulsions for pressure-sensitive adhesives used in labeling applications.

"The array of products we can produce – including laminating, cold seal and heat seal, adhesive coatings and acrylic emulsions for pressure-sensitive adhesives – allied with our extremely modern production process, brings a vast range of solutions to our customers in the flexible packaging, automotive, civil construction and shoe making industries," says Mauro Trevizan, Latin American Business Manager for Rohm and Haas Adhesives and Sealants.

The plant boasts the very latest equipment, assuring the highest quality and safety throughout the production process while minimizing the impact on the environment. The new Jacareí plant is enabling Rohm and Haas to rapidly expand its Adhesives and Sealants business in the Latin American region. "Building this facility in Brazil to meet Latin American customer needs with a far-reaching adhesives portfolio is exactly what was needed," states Trevizan. "Responsiveness, timely local supply, and excellent cost positions have already proven very impressive to customers," he added.

The facility will join the company’s other adhesives plants in Mexico and Argentina in working to meet the expanding needs of the Latin American region. According to Trevizan, "Together, the Jacareí plant and the recently expanded plant in Toluca, Mexico are ready to assume a leadership role in Latin America’s packaging adhesives sector."
