Solutia Welcomes LA Fibers to 'Partners for Renewal' Program

In an effort to bring innovative new technology, products, and programs to the contract carpet market, Solutia Inc. is expanding its "Partners for Renewal" program to formally recognize and work with companies, like Los Angeles Fiber Company, who are leaders in the area of carpet sustainability.

"The strategy of our program is to promote collaboration and the entrepreneurial spirit in order to accomplish two key objectives," stated Dr. Robert Peoples, Ph.D, director of carpet recycle and business development. "The first objective is to find ways to divert carpet from landfills and waste to energy via new process and product technology. The second is to help facilitate the efforts of entrepreneurs committed to the first objective by lending the credibility and resources of Solutia, a well respected corporation known for our aggressive leadership in the environmental arena."

L.A. Fibers has agreed to accept post consumer commercial carpet from Solutia's customers and recycle it into synthetic carpet cushion and other thermoplastic products. "L.A. Fibers has been committed to creating innovative items from waste. Post consumer carpet will not degrade in our landfills; therefore, there is an urgency to develop useable products from that waste. It is the responsibility of companies like Solutia and L.A. Fibers to bring new products to the market that solve our landfill issues. However, we need the consumers to demand and purchase these recycled products," said Ronald J. Greitzer, president, Los Angeles Fiber Company. "These are exciting times for carpet and the environment," exclaimed Peoples.

"Solutia is thrilled to have the opportunity to work with a L.A. Fibers, a leader in post consumer carpet recycle. Solutia's objective is to deliver real solutions to the challenge of carpet landfill diversion. This is a major step forward in our ability to meet our commitment," says Kaye Gosline, director, contract fiber sales for Solutia.
