Union workers at the Tulsa glass plant voted to accept significant pay cuts -- some as steep as 50 percent -- under new ownership rather than see Ford Motor Co. shut down the facility later this year.

Yet workers apparently are angry with their national leadership at the United Auto Workers for putting them into a perceived conflict with a plant in Nashville, Tenn., that also is included in the prospective sale.

The Feb. 8 vote to accept a new three-year bargaining agreement from prospective buyer Zeledyne LLC was approved by 83 percent of those voting. The same contract offer last month was rejected by 91 percent of the Tulsa plant's union voters.
