Saint-Gobain Glass: Transparence 2007 Awards Declared

Saint-Gobain Glass has announced the winners of `Transparence 2007’, a unique initiative by the company to integrate the student community. architects and the industry via a two-stage design competition for undergraduate students of architecture and interior design.

The theme this year was to create an innovative design for a fashion retail house. Eight teams were short listed from the regional rounds and participated in the grand finale, which was held at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal in association with NASA’s (National Association of Student’s of Architecture) annual event.

Mr Subhajit Das of Jadavpur University won the first place while Ms Kavitha and team of SP, Chennai were awarded the first runner up while Ms Palin Sikari and team - Jadavpur University and Mr Ramanan and team SAP, Chennai were jointly awarded the second runner up.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr B Santhanam, president - Flat Glass, south Asia and founder managing director of Saint-Gobain Glass India said, “We involve practicing architects in the process of design of the competition as well as judging it. This way, we have been able to evolve a unique forum that facilitates interaction between practicing architects, students and the industry, thereby promoting the use of glass in architecture”. “Transparence - Design Competition for the students of Architecture and Interior design” was launched in the year 2005 (as a bi-annual event) as a means of providing today’s novice architects an opportunity to demonstrate their designing powers and identify their latent potential.”
