Building Innovations In India: Performance, Energy Efficiency

DuPont Building Innovations emphasized the use of smart, innovative materials to stakeholders of the Indian building industry at a recent forum on "Energy Efficiency in Buildings" hosted by The Energy Research Institute (TERI) in New Delhi, India.

Highlighting how DuPont R&D and science-based innovations provide sustainable solutions to the building and construction industry, Jagdish Kumar, executive director, DuPont India, said: "We welcome the adoption of the new Energy Conservation Building Code and TERI's system of rating green buildings. Both focus on the correct specification of insulation values, but there is also a need in India to ensure that once the correct insulation values are installed, they retain those values. For example, DuPont™ Tyvek® membranes from DuPont can help insulation retain its value for a much longer time."

Jagdish emphasized how smart materials can help builders and architects reach and maintain desired energy efficiency levels in a more economical and aesthetic manner. As examples, he referenced DuPont™ Tyvek® Weatherization Systems that make buildings more energy-efficient and comfortable; DuPont™ Energain® which helps regulate indoor temperature without consuming conventional energy; DuPont™ Tyvek® reflective membranes that add to the insulation value of the blanket without a corresponding increase in cost or structural weight; and IR-resistant lamination interlayers from DuPont that will make glass, a major feature of modern architecture, more energy-efficient.

DuPont India is a member of TERI's Business Council of Sustainable Development, which is an associate of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. TERI is headed by Dr. R. K. Pachauri, who is also the chairman of IPCC, which was awarded this year's Nobel Peace Prize.
