Kootenai County Ends Glass Recycling, Says Too Costly

The Kootenai County solid waste director in northern Idaho says the county will no longer accept recycled glass when the new year starts.

Roger Saterfiel says the glass is too expensive to take and the county would have to spend $20,000 a year to send it to Oregon or Canada.

Area residents drop off about 250 tons of glass a year. Saterfiel says the glass will now be taken to the Fighting Creek Landfill. He says the county also takes in about 50,000 tons of wood, metal, plastic and papers a year to be recycled.
