Interpane optimizes the energy
balance via triple insulation glazing

Solar heat input minimizes heating costs

Windows with triple insulation glazing are essential for passive and low-energy houses. However, they are also becoming more popular for conventional residential buildings and renovation projects. With a Ug-value down to 0.5 W/m²K, they are as effective as well-insulated masonry and enable passive solar energy gains. With the new ”super warm glazing“ iplus 3L and iplus 3CL, Interpane recently managed to increase the solar energy gain (g-value) to 55 percent without any sacrifices in thermal insulation. The light transmittance was increased to 72 percent, and with their excellent colour neutrality, or clearness of the coating, these new developments are also a visual “delight”.

Previously it was best known as an ideal product for new passive and low-energy houses, but now triple glazing is becoming increasingly popular for renovation projects, due to the ongoing CO2 debates and continuously increasing energy costs.

With the optimization of the Low-E coatings, Interpane was once again able to drastically improve the energy properties of their triple glazing. At very low thermal insulation values down to 0.5 W/m²K, iplus 3CL, for example, reaches a total energy transmittance of 55 percent, at a light transmittance of 72 percent. Solar radiation still passes through the glazing unobstructed, in turn resulting in solar energy gains. Thermal heat, on the other hand, cannot escape: due to the use of Low-E coatings in the triple glazing, the glazing does not let more heat escape than a well-insulated brick wall, and thereby saves a lot of heating energy.

This also increases one’s living comfort: even on cold winter days, the temperature on the glass surface inside the room will nearly be the same as the room temperature, thereby eliminating the “cold touch” that still exists with double glazing.

In order to take full advantage of the high-quality triple insulation glazing iplus 3L and iplus 3CL, thermally improved frame systems should be used. In the case of renovations, the frame would have to be replaced anyhow: triple insulation glazing is thicker than double glazing, and therefore, requires deeper frames as well as more durable mountings that can handle the increased weight. Insulation as good as brickwork: solar radiation still passes through the glazing unobstructed - thermal heat, on the other hand, cannot escape due to the Low-E coatings. The result is much desired solar energy gains.
