Guardian Industries Corp., headquartered in the American city of Auburn Hills, Michigan, was charged with price fixing in Europe's flat glass market by European regulators and fined, along with three other companies, almost 500 million euros.

In a follow-up story, GlassOnWeb.com has conducted a brief interview with Guardian Group Vice-President Peter Walters, who said that even though they were aware of the investigation, those at Guardian were shocked by its outcome upon learning of it through an EU press release.

“We don't believe the facts justify the outcome as it pertains to Guardian,” Walters continued. When asked if they intended to appeal to the European Commission, Walters responded that the company would decide whether to appeal following a review of the Commission's findings.

Guardian received the highest fine of 148 million euros, followed by Pilkington at 140 million euros, Saint-Gobain at 133.9 million euros, and Asahi's European subsidiary, formerly known as Glaverbel, at 65 million euros.
