Mitsui Matsushima announces new line of glass molded 3D lens

Mitsui Matsushima Co., Ltd (MMC) (1518.T), a leading manufacturer of glass molded lens and lens sub-assemblies for the Optical Communication and Information Technology industries announced a new product line: the Glass Molded 3D Lens and Mirror; designed to significantly reduce costs for high-speed, high-capacity Optical Communication Systems. MMC utilizes its proprietary ultra-precision, dimensional control technology that includes: leading edge optical design, exceptional micro machining and state-of-the-art measurement analysis program to fabricate the 3D Lens and Mirror in a glass molding process, which results in a free surface that can function as an optical switch or wavelength splitter. "I am confident that the 3D Lens and Mirror will be essential for the optical component industry to carry out simple device structures, and will eventually help to achieve a smaller footprint for optical transport systems. We have already received very positive feedback from customer evaluations." said Isao Ishibai, Managing Director of MMC. "Our proprietary technology generates less than 0.1 micron Peak-to-Valley of profile tolerance in the case of 10mm diameter, as well as flexible dimensional options between 0.8 and 110mm diameter which can satisfy various customer demands, such as projection and reflector of spectrum analyzer applications." Ishibai added. "While increasing the transmission speed in the DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) system, technical difficulties also increase. We believe MMC's 3D Lens and Mirror provide our customers with a solution to design low cost next generation systems," said Michael Vitale, Manager, Optoelectronics, Sumitomo Corporation of America, who is the U.S. distributor for MMC's products. 3D Lens and Mirror Specifications:
