Pilkington: AGR Promotes Brand

Shaded Pilkington green and wearing a beaming smile, the cheery windscreen man is believed to be the first ever mascot figure employed by a Pilkington business.

"We are expanding into far-flung regions of Europe and dealing with small independent customers who may never have heard of Pilkington - or if they have, think of us only in terms of building products," said Richard Batchelor, marketing manager for Aftermarket Europe.

"So we wanted something to tie our brand to the product. Windscreen Man is a very simple image but it's instantly obvious what he is and we hope he has a friendly appeal."

Launched at the end of last year, the mascot has already starred in a TV advertisement in Finland and donned a Santa hat for AGR's Christmas cards. He has his own product range too - from key-rings and Post-its to t-shirts and golf balls.

"We've had a very positive reaction to him," said Richard. "The Polish business is even running a competition to give him a name. Elsewhere we're still just calling him Windscreen Man but if anyone has any better ideas ..."
